We are so happy that you have an interest in becoming a foster or adoptive parent. Please explore all the areas of this website to learn more about becoming a foster and/or adoptive parent but especially the qualifications tab for the basic requirements necessary. In the calendar section the training schedule for the classes are listed and the dates and times.
Training to become a foster/adoptive parent is essential. During training you will learn the ins and outs of child welfare, what to expect and tips for parenting. If there are two potential parents then both must attend all classes but not necessarily at the same time. Classes do not have to be attended in any order and if a class doesn’t fit into your schedule there will be another set scheduled shortly.
All Dayton classes are held at the Access for Youth offices at 1320 Woodman Drive, Riverside OH 45432. (Route 35 & Woodman) Access for Youth is located in the Advanced Therapeutic Services (ATS) Building. Please come into the ATS lobby (entrance at the rear of the building) and ask at reception for the location of the training room.
At different times during the year, Access for Youth presents classes in other communities; these will also be included in the calendar. The locations of these classes vary and will be clearly noted when applicable.
Although we would like to know if you are attending, you may arrive without notice with no obligation. You are welcome to attend if you just want to know more about foster care or you would really want a child to adopt. If you have any questions that you can’t answer here, please feel free to call us at 937-424-8815.
Thanks for being willing to help a child in need.
Sincerely,
Mary Anne Cole, LSW, CAA
